The winner of the  Wellcome Trust Book Prize, which is awarded to “outstanding works of fiction and non-fiction on the theme of health, illness or medicine” was announced earlier this week. The book, Keeper, by Andrea Gillies, is described as a “thoughtful and moving book that takes the reader on a journey into dementia”.

Andrea Gillies’s book Keeper: Living with Nancy – a journey into Alzheimer’s (Short Books) – describes the author’s decision to take on the full-time care of her mother-in-law, an Alzheimer’s sufferer and beat a shortlist of five other books to win the £25,000 prize.
