In January 2013, after a competitive process, The Reader Organisation was delighted to have secured Preferred Bidder status for The Mansion House, Coach House & Stable Yard at Calderstones Park from Liverpool City Council. We currently have a licence agreement with Liverpool City Council to use the buildings for meetings, activities and events, and we are running reading activities at The Mansion House for adults and young people.
Our vision is to bring The Mansion House, Coach House & Stable Yard back to life as The International Centre for Reading and Wellbeing. This is for everyone; we want people from the local area, the wider city of Liverpool, the rest of the UK and beyond to read, learn, play, make new friends and find new opportunities here.
This is a unique opportunity for us to do more, to establish a quality experience of reading for pleasure and wellbeing in a beautiful, peaceful and welcoming place.
At Calderstones, we are going to create a working community based on reading; there will be jobs and training opportunities here to help people achieve their full potential.
“I feel that it is a fantastic opportunity to bring children and older people closer through reading and the fantastic assets of the Mansion House and surrounding park” – attendee at Calderstones Public Open Day, April 2013
We understand that The Mansion House is much-loved – we love it too! We will continually listen to and work with local people to make sure this is a development we can all be proud of. Liverpool City Council supports our sensitive approach to issues such as parking, noise and the local environment.
Any ideas, questions, or feedback? We would love to hear from you!
Please contact Sophie Povey, Reader Places Manager. You can also drop in to the Mansion House for a chat from 4-5pm each Wednesday.
