The Reader Organisation’s Shared Reading Practitioner Day

In building a Reading Revolution, The Reader Organisation is also creating a new and necessary craft, that of Shared Reading Practice.

This special event – open to everyone who has completed the Read to Lead course – marks the commitment to developing quality in this field, and brings together shared reading professionals and passionate independents alike to develop their practice through a day of literary thinking and doing.

‘Speaking our own Language’, The Reader Organisation’s first Shared Reading Practitioner Day took place at Liverpool Hope University’s Creative Campus  in April 2013, bringing together a community of shared reading practitioners from across the UK and beyond and staff from The Reader Organisation for a day of exploring and discovering what ‘quality’ means in shared reading practice through workshops, the presentation of cutting-edge research and special guest speakers, all helping shared reading practitioners to further the quality of their Ongoing Learning.

Speakers included:

  • Dr Jane Davis MBE, The Reader Organisation Founder & Director
  • Professor Phil Davis and Dr Josie Billington from CRILS (Centre for Research into Reading, Information & Linguistic Systems) at the University of Liverpool
  • Kate McDonnell, The Reader Organisation’s newly-appointed Quality Practice Manager
  • Brian Nellist MBE, teacher, reader, godfather of The Reader Organisation
  • Dr Angela Macmillan, editor ofthe A Little, Aloud anthologies and The Reader magazine
  • Anna Lawrence Pietroni, The Reader Organisation patron and author of Ruby’s Spoon
