Moby Dick on the Mersey – A Special Edition

January 30, 2013

moby dickLiverpool’s first ever marathon reading of Moby-Dick is heading up on the horizon – Moby Dick on the Mersey is happening on May 4th-6th 2013 at  Merseyside Maritime Museum, in association with the University of Liverpool’s Centre for Lifelong Learning, and will see up to 135 readers each tackling a chapter of the classic novel.

The event itself promises to be a reading extravaganza, but there’s plenty of other exciting things happening around Moby Dick on the Mersey, including a series of lectures and talks around Liverpool’s connections to Melville and whaling, workshops, children’s storytelling and even a special Moby Dick on the Mersey beer being brewed locally.

If you’ve never read Moby-Dick before, or perhaps want to head back out onto the seas to revisit it, now is the time to get prepared – with a special annotated, limited-edition version of the text, based on the popular online  edition Power Moby-Dick. As well as the story itself, this carefully crafted edition will feature extensive annotations as well as historic illustrations. In hardback and paperback, the book is intended to be an enriching resource for readers of all kinds, bringing a true classic to life ahead of its marathon reading on the Mersey.

The people behind Moby Dick on the Mersey are currently running a Kickstarter campaign to fund publishing these lovely editions of Moby-Dick. The campaign closes this Friday, 1st February so don’t delay if you want to show your support and sign up to get a copy. Find out all about the campaign over at the Moby-Dick Kickstarter page.
