July 16, 2013

VolunteersWorking at The Reader Organisation: Is It For You?
Tuesday 23rd July, 1.30-4.15pm
The George Fox Room, Friends House, 173 Euston Road, London, NW1 2BJ

“I couldn’t imagine this was something I would ever do. Its been cathartic and touched things in me that I didn’t expect to be touched. In a very organic way. We are all from somewhere else, very different backgrounds and we’ve found something in common” – Get Into Reading group member, Southwark, London

Love literature? Enthusiastic about improving lives through shared reading and bringing people together in London? Then The Reader Organisation is looking for you…

In light of recent funding for our work in south and west London there will be a number of job opportunities in the area in the coming months, and we’ll be holding a Recruitment Day in London on Tuesday 23rd July to find people to join us for our Reading Revolution. We’re looking for a diverse range of people to fill a variety of roles including Get Into Reading Project Workers, a Literary Learning Coordinator, and roles working with children and young people. So, if you like what you see and hear on the day you’ll be able to fill in an application form there and then, and leave it with us for consideration when the vacancies arise.

The Reader Organisation is a unique place to work and having the right staff is crucial to our success. That’s why we’re always on the look out for new talent, and why we’re inviting you to come along to meet some of our staff, and find out more about what we do and what it’s like working here. We’re a professional and flexible organisation, committed to our staff and beneficiaries, combining dedication, passion and expecting the unexpected to ensure we get the job done.

In return for hard work, you can expect flexibility, an excellent holiday entitlement, rewarding work and a caring and supportive working environment. We want our staff to enjoy working here. We encourage a good work-life balance, and we don’t have a culture of clock watching or totting up hours worked and owed. It’s simply give and take on both parts. We are also an equal opportunities employer, and we welcome applications from all suitably qualified people.

In joining our London team, you’ll be a part of a rapidly growing force that is bringing shared reading into the heart of communities, benefiting the health and wellbeing of people from all ages and backgrounds:

  • 81% of our London group members are more understanding towards other people as a result of their group
  • 85% say they are more likely to share books or poems with friends or family members
  • 86% say it’s a chance to meet people they wouldn’t meet in their day-to-day lives

Interested? Please do and come find out more on the day.

Head to the Working With Us section of our website for more information, and contact Michelle Barrett to register your free place:
Please note: all places MUST BE REGISTERED – unregistered drop-ins on the day will not be permitted due to capacity.
